Balkanika is one of the most prominent and popular Balkan ethno groups. Their music is recognized world-wide and their live shows are genuine musical and theatrical spectacles, making Balkanika one of the greatest cultural exports of the Balkans.
Every edition of Balkanika is different from the previous one, but all of them are built on old, traditional and sometimes rather unusual instruments, which are included in modern arrangements with outstanding rhythms and noticeable use of electronic elements.
Already back in the times of Yugoslavia, Aleksandar Sanja Ilić, the group’s leader, was a successful composer, who was active in a wide range of musical genres. Today – when not performing with Balkanika – he writes music for TV productions, movies and the theatre.
